Development of a Statutory Architectural Technologists Register (ATR) in Republic of Ireland
In January, a delegation met with the Department for Housing, Planning and Local Government (DHPLG), Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and the Republic of Ireland Centre Committee as part of the next stage for the implementation of the Statutory Register for competent Architectural Technologists under the Building Control Regulations 1997 - 2018.
At the meeting with the DHPLG, it was agreed that the Regulatory Impact Assessment submitted by CIAT has demonstrated to the Minister that there was sufficient demand, need and value to implement the ATR on a statutory footing and begin the steps to implement change and amend the primary legislation.
The DHPLG have not provided a time frame on when the steps would be achieved, but registration on the shadow ATR will provide the impetus to expedite implementation. Once the shadow Statutory Register has been demonstrated as economically achievable, the process will be a quicker one.
The Institute will continue to support the ATR on the proviso that CIAT are given an acceptable and definitive timeline by the DHPLG.
