Role Description

Role and responsibilities:

We’re looking for an experienced technical manager to get involved with our exciting portfolio of projects. You will be responsible for managing the delivery of the technical aspects of our projects, supporting the rest of the project team. This role requires a high level of ability and desire to work with existing and new clients, as well as being a key member of our small team.

The role will include:

  • Day to day activities on projects through all RIBA stages
  • Collaborate with project runners to organise, resource and deliver workload
  • Leading the in-house technical design collaboration process
  • Managing, training and supporting other members of the technical design team
  • Production of technical, tender and construction design packages
  • Controlling and updating technical templating and practice standards to optimise efficiency and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Managing quality control procedures to ensure consistency of output across the team
  • Organising and attending site visits, managing queries and input
  • Contract administration and on-site duties
  • Monitoring the completion of CDM and other health and safety documentation within the practice, implementing changes where necessary
  • Liaising directly with appropriate authorities and external consultants
  • Assisting and implementing developments to templates, file systems and processes
  • Forming good relationships with clients, contractors, structural engineers and other third parties
  • Assisting other members of the project team in their day-to-day duties

Secondary responsibilities:

  • Being a team player is crucial in a small business and at Marraum we all need to work flexibly, particularly during busy periods. So there may also be times when other jobs need doing such as answering the phone, general housekeeping, organising team days or training.

Required skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, with responsibility for delivering high quality projects through RIBA stages of work, is essential
  • MCIAT and/or relevant industry qualification is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of CAD software, drawing methods and standards
  • Skilled use of ArchiCAD is desirable
  • Excellent technical design skills balanced with a commercial approach
  • Experience of managing a team with strong interpersonal skills and confidence
  • Good understanding of building surveying
  • Solid, up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the UK planning process and policies
  • Comprehensive understanding of UK building regulations
  • Comprehensive understanding of CDM regulations
  • Ability to work within tight timeframes and competitive fees
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to work on your own initiative and meet deadlines
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads
  • Must be a team player with the ambition to succeed and develop within a supportive company
  • Full clean driving license and use of car is essential
  • Ability to work in the Penryn office is essential
  • Good spoken and written English is essential

Salary and package:

  • Salary £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience
  • 37.5 hours per week
