Members are invited to a site visit to the Royal Clarence Hotel, where NooKo are actively progressing the sensitive transformation of this Grade II listed building. The scheme reimagines the historic fabric for a new chapter, balancing conservation with a contemporary, sustainable design approach.

Dating back to 1769, the Royal Clarence has long been part of Exeter’s architectural narrative, from early innovations in gas lighting to its role as one of the country’s earliest hotels. Following the fire in 2016, the building remains a shell of its former self, but work on site is now focused on carefully rebuilding and reinterpreting the structure for future use. This visit offers a rare opportunity to see heritage-led design in progress, understand the challenges of working within a highly sensitive historic context, and observe how NooKo are shaping a long-term vision for its reuse and revival.
