CDM Regulations (Northern Ireland)
By Eddie Weir MCIAT Vice-President Practice
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2016' (S.R. 2016 No. 146) (CDM2016) came into force on 1 August 2016.
When the CDM2015 Regulations came into effect in England and Wales in April 2015, the Institute set up a tab on its website that specifically dealt with these regulations in order to assist our members, and this can be found in the Members’ Area of the website and is updated as and when more information is presented to the Institute. The link to this is below:
This area features a wealth of information and resources that the Institute has issued and obtained from both Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and these include documents, articles, FAQs and links that will assist those who are involved in projects, ranging from Domestic Clients (http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/areyou/client.htm) to Principal Designers (http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/areyou/principal-designer.htm) to Construction Workers (http://www.hse.gov.uk/construction/areyou/worker.htm).
The Institute produced an insert on CDM2015 that was published in the Spring 2015 issue of AT Magazine, and this also appears in this section of the website.
Further information on the introduction of these regulations in Northern Ireland can be found in the link below:
RIBA Publications has also published a book on the CDM2015. The book, written by Peter Caplehorn Policy Director and Deputy Chief Executive, Construction Products Association, HonMCIAT, is titled Health and Safety: RIBA Plan of Work 2013 Guide. This book is supported by CIAT and features the Institute’s logo, and Peter is also an attending member of the Institute’s Technical Taskforce. This book can be purchased from RIBA Bookshops via the following link:
