CIAT-Accredited Conservationist joins STBA Board

A CIAT-Accredited Conservationist is a new member on the board of the Sustainable Traditional Buildings Alliance (STBA).

Des Cairns FCIAT CIAT-Accredited Conservationist is one of four new additions to the STBA Board. CIAT is also a supporting organisation of STBA.

The Sustainable Traditional Buildings Alliance is a collaboration of organisations that acts as a forum for sustaining and improving solid-wall buildings.

The STBA develops policy, guidance and training to minimise risks and maximise benefits to traditional buildings and their owners with a focus on five key areas; the health of the occupants, the health and durability of the building fabric, the energy consumption attributed to the building/occupant, the impact on our communities and culture and the impact on the natural environment.

Des Cairns is the Principal at DesCairns Architecture, a progressive and dynamic design-led architecture and conservation practice. He holds several professional qualifications, including FCIAT, FCIOB, IHBC and CIAT Accredited Conservationist. Des joined O’Neill & Greeves Architects in 1984 and later formed Greeves Kelly Cairns Limited Chartered Architect with Noel Kelly. In April 2011, DesCairns Architecture was established at Fisherman’s Cottage. Des has also served as the Chair of the IHBC Northern Ireland Branch and is a Trustee of the IHBC.
