CIAT Fellow to lead industry standards committee

A Fellow of CIAT has been announced as the new chair of the British Standards Institution (BSI) B/209 General Design and Construction Standards Committee.

Harry Pangli FCIAT will lead the Committee, which is responsible for planning and co-ordinating standards relating to national codes of practice and for the design and construction of buildings, for the next three years.

Harry has been a BSI Committee member for over seven years, giving him extensive experience of the organisation's role and process. He also represents CIAT on several other sector committees, including the Construction Industry Council's Liability Panel and Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. He is Deputy Chair of the Institute's Liability Taskforce and a member of the Documents Taskforce.

Commenting on his appointment, Harry Pangli FCIAT said:

I am pleased to be taking on this important role, at what is a challenging time for the building design and construction sectors.

The final report of the Grenfell Inquiry has shown that our industry needs to evolve to ensure that we deliver a high quality, safe built environment. Clear, achievable standards are essential to this evolution.

I look forward to working with colleagues across BSI and the wider sector to deliver this goal and help restore public trust in the industry.

In addition to holding CIAT Fellowship, Harry is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a senior associate member of Academy of Experts and an RIBA chartered Architect. He is currently an Architectural Expert Witness with Expert Architect Limited, where he focuses on construction disputes. He holds an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution, in addition to his qualifications as a Chartered Architectural Technologist and Architect.

Any members who would like to become more involved with CIAT activities would be welcome and we would invite you to complete this expression of interest form here.
