Council pulls £75m fire safety framework amid tender 'flaws'

The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham has pulled the procurement of £75m worth of remedial works to buildings in the area, after it identified "flaws" in tender documents.

The local authority had been seeking a borough-wide contractor to undertake remedial and ad-hoc construction work, including to some "complex, high-value voids" which it said was likely to involve fire doors, firefighting equipment including risers, sprinklers, smoke control systems and external façade remediation.

Invitations to tender for the five-year deal were due to be sent out on 16 March this year.

But a notice published on 19 August in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), the council said it was abandoning the tender.

It said that after an internal review, it had identified "a number of structural flaws" in pricing tables and evaluation methodology that mean the most economically advantageous tender for the council "cannot be identified".
