Free guide to damp busting

As part of National Maintenance Week, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) has launched a free guide on combatting damp, one of the major causes of damage in heritage properties. 

The guide covers the three main causes of damp: penetrating/falling damp, rising damp and condensation. 

It focuses on key areas where damp can be a problem such as slates and tiles, lead flashing and chimneys. 

It also covers misdiagnoses of damp, maintenance of damp proof courses and means of controlling condensation by both active and passive means.
