Member project featured on 'Grand Designs'
An innovative project designed by a Chartered Architectural Technologist has been featured on Channel Four's popular Grand Designs programme.
Nanskerris, a private residence near Helston, is a large contemporary extension to a Grade II listed former game keeper's lodge by Chris Strike MCIAT of RA Design Ltd, St Ives, Cornwall. The design combines a 1930s art deco suntrap style with contemporary eco-friendly materials including locally sourced timber and recycled car tyres.
The house owners, Tom and Danie Raffield, were heavily involved in the project and used their expertise as professional timber steam-benders to provide much of the building's styling.
Commenting on the project, Chris Strike said 'With the existing game keeper's lodge being grade II listed...building consent was challenging and involved a couple of different designs in order to gain approval. Our clients had very firm ideas of the accommodation they wanted which allowed me to come up with the final design. We are delighted with the final outcome.'
