New Housing Minister appointed

Lee Rowley has been appointed as Housing Minister in the latest cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Rowley takes on the role for the second time, becoming the 16th housing minister since 2010. He replaces Rachel Maclean, who was sacked by Sunak after just over nine months in the job.

His first stint as Housing Minister lasted around seven weeks during the brief premiership of former PM Liz Truss in 2022. He also served as Construction Minister under Boris Johnson amongst several other portfolios in BEIS (now DBT) and was co-Chair of the Construction Leadership Council (CLC).
