'Surge' for new builds

Government report shows highest level of starts since 2008

The number of new build homes that have started to be built has surged to the highest level since 2008, according to figures released today by HM Government. 

The latest housebuilding data shows that 164,960 new homes were started in the year to June 2017, up 13% on the previous year, and have increased by more than three-quarters since the low in 2009.

More than 153,000 new homes have been completed during the same period, showing an increase of 11% compared with the year before.

In the  Autumn Statement, an additional £1.4 billion investment was announced for the government’s affordable housing programme, increasing the total budget to £7.1 billion.
