Update on regulatory reform
You will all be aware of the ongoing debate within the sector regarding professional regulation.
Since I wrote to you in December, discussions have moved forward with Government publishing a prospectus for the Single Construction Regulator and RIBA providing further details on their campaign for repeal of the Architect’s Act. Proposals for reform are also under discussion by the Construction Industry Council and others.
We know the uncertainty surrounding potential regulation – and particularly, the risks of a protectionist approach – will be a cause for concern for many of you. Conversely, regulation could also offer an opportunity to create a more level playing field while strengthening public safety. CIAT is therefore investing significant resource to achieve an outcome which works for our membership, the wider sector, and the public.
The below short update provides more information on CIAT’s position and our work to date, building on the position paper published last year. If you have any questions, or would like to offer feedback on this work, please email [email protected].
