Architectural Technologist required
Prestige Architects
We are a Chelsea-based practice with a reputation built on restraint, rigour, and the kind of residential work that rarely appears in magazines because our clients prefer it that way. Our projects span bespoke new-builds, complex basement extensions, and listed buildings across London’s most exacting postcodes. We are looking for a Architectural Technologist who takes technical precision as seriously as good design , someone who understands that at this level, a well-resolved threshold detail or a precisely specified joinery package can define a project just as powerfully as the plan.
THE ROLE
You will lead the technical development of projects from detailed design through to practical completion, taking genuine ownership of construction information, technical coordination, and quality assurance across RIBA Stages 3–6. Reporting directly to a Senior Associate and the Director, you will be embedded in projects from an early stage shaping technical strategies, coordinating consultants, and maintaining the practice’s standards of precision from the first detail to the final snagging inspection. Day-to-day you will produce and coordinate construction packages, attend site when necessary, manage multi-disciplinary consultant relationships, and navigate Building Regulations, listed building consent, and CDM requirements with confidence and authority.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead production of comprehensive, coordinated, and buildable construction information across RIBA Stages 3–6
- Bespoke detail design — junctions, thresholds, wet rooms, joinery, specialist finishes, and luxury material interfaces
- Specification writing using NBS or equivalent — full technical specifications appropriate to super-prime residential
- Building Regulations compliance, condition discharge, and statutory authority liaison
- Listed building consent coordination and heritage fabric detailing
- Lead technical coordination across structural, M&E, drainage, acoustic, fire engineering, party wall, and interior design consultants
- Specialist supplier liaison — bespoke joinery makers, stone fabricators, metalwork specialists, and luxury fit-out contractors
- Management of RFIs, technical submittals, and contractor queries
- Preparation of technical schedules: door, window, ironmongery, material, and finish schedules
- Contribution to CAD and drawing standards, and practice-wide technical refinement
- Direct contractor communication under senior oversight
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- MCIAT, ACIAT, or HND/BSc in Architectural Technology with substantial senior practice experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a lead or technical role, ideally within a premium residential practice
- Exceptional technical detailing — you find the complexity of a bespoke junction as engaging as the architectural idea that prompted it
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (essential); working knowledge of Revit or equivalent BIM software (desirable)
- Experience with NBS or equivalent specification-writing platform
- Thorough understanding of UK Building Regulations, listed building consent, CDM Regulations, and the planning process
- Experience in high-end or heritage residential — bespoke details, luxury finishes, and complex refurbishments strongly preferred
- RIBA Stages 3–6 experience from detailed design through to completion and handover
- Strong consultant coordination skills and an instinct for identifying technical risk early
- Right to work in the UK
We are drawn to technologists who care deeply about how buildings are made — who find the resolution of a complex detail as satisfying as the design that prompted it, and who understand that at this level of practice, technical excellence is not a support function. It is the work.
