The role
The successful candidate will assist with the delivery of a diverse range of architectural projects across the RIBA work stages. The role will include concept design, planning applications, heritage and conservation projects, technical drawing production, measured surveys, visualisation, client liaison and coordination with consultants and local authorities. You will work closely with senior members of the practice while developing your design, technical and professional skills within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Key responsibilities
Design and planning
- Produce creative architectural concepts and initial design options.
- Prepare feasibility studies, presentation drawings and planning information.
- Develop architectural concepts through freehand sketches and digital design.
- Contribute ideas during internal design reviews.
- Assist with the development of appropriate planning strategies.
- Prepare planning application drawing packages.
Technical delivery
- Produce accurate Revit models and coordinated architectural drawing packages.
- Prepare Building Regulations drawings and construction information.
- Maintain the practice’s drawing and presentation standards.
- Coordinate structural engineer and other consultant information.
- Assist with the preparation of specifications where required.
Measured surveys
- Undertake measured building surveys of residential, heritage and commercial properties.
- Accurately use laser measuring equipment and traditional tape measures.
- Record site information and identify relevant constraints.
- Produce accurate existing building models and drawings in Revit.
Heritage and conservation
The successful candidate will assist with:
- Listed Building Consent applications.
- Heritage Statements.
- Design and Access Statements.
- Historic Building Reports.
- Archive and historical research.
- Conservation area appraisals.
- Assessments of heritage significance.
- An interest in conservation, listed buildings and historic architecture is highly desirable.
Visualisation
Produce high-quality architectural visual material using:
- Autodesk Revit.
- Lumion.
- Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience with additional Adobe Creative Suite software would be advantageous.
Client and project support
- Attend client meetings and site visits.
- Communicate professionally with clients, consultants and local authorities.
- Assist senior staff with the delivery and administration of projects.
- Prepare meeting notes and project information where required.
- Help coordinate projects and maintain effective communication between all parties.
Sustainability
Support the development of sustainable architectural solutions through:
- Passive design principles.
- Appropriate material selection.
- Environmental awareness.
- Energy-efficient design.
Marketing
Support the continued growth of the practice by:
- Producing project visuals and presentation material.
- Contributing content for the practice’s social media channels.
- Assisting with marketing material.
- Helping to maintain PUUC Architecture’s professional image.
Essential requirements
Applicants must have:
- A minimum of two years’ professional experience within an architectural practice.
- A Part 2 qualification in Architecture or a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology.
- Excellent Autodesk Revit skills.
- Experience using Lumion and Adobe Photoshop.
- A strong understanding of UK planning applications.
- Excellent architectural and technical drawing ability.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- A full UK driving licence.
- Access to a vehicle for surveys, site visits and meetings.
Highly desirable skills
Candidates will be at a significant advantage if they have:
- Strong architectural design ability.
- Excellent freehand sketching skills.
- Creative concept-development experience.
- Conservation or listed building experience.
- Experience preparing Heritage Statements.
- Experience preparing Design and Access Statements.
- Historical or archive research experience.
- Strong visual presentation skills.
- Knowledge of the UK Building Regulations.
- An understanding of sustainable architecture.
- Experience preparing planning appeal information.

Location requirement
Due to the collaborative nature of the position and the requirement to attend the office, measured surveys, client meetings and site visits, applicants must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Bewdley, Worcestershire, or be willing to relocate before commencing employment. Applicants who are unable to commute regularly to the Bewdley office and are unwilling to relocate will unfortunately not be considered.
Working arrangements and benefits
- Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm.
- One-hour unpaid lunch.
- Office-based working during the probationary period.
- Hybrid working may be available following successful completion of probation, typically involving two to three days per week in the office, subject to project requirements.
- 23 days’ annual leave, including three days allocated to the Christmas shutdown, plus Bank Holidays.
