2018 AGM to take place in Denmark

Winning bid for Europe Centre

Above: Aarhus Old City

Following the shortlisting process of seven to three bids at March Council and subsequent feasibility study undertaken on these locations, the Executive Board at its meeting last Thursday agreed that the location for the 2018 AGM will be Aarhus, Denmark (Europe Centre).

The feasibility study equally investigated all three locations including costs and wider issues or benefits to the Institute and its members. In making the decision the Board considered the pros and cons of each bid.

We congratulate the Europe Centre on winning the bid and look forward to working with you in the lead up to the events. Holding the AGM in Aarhus will provide a great opportunity to strengthen relations with the Europe Centre and our international members and also for CIAT to engage with the strong Architectural Technology communities in Denmark. It will also be great to learn more about AT in Denmark, its education and practise and how the discipline is critical across the global built environment sector.  We have a Memorandum of Understanding with Konstruktørforeningen (KF) the Danish professional body and we also Accredit the degree programme at VIA University College.  We are developing shared projects with KF, VIA and the University College of Northern Denmark (UCN), the most recent with UCN in Vietnam.  CIAT is also a member of The Association of European Building Surveyors and Construction Experts (AEEBC) and as such, holding an event in Europe during the BREXIT negotiations demonstrates our commitment to work with our fellow professionals across the European Union. Membership of AEEBC is pan-European and not restricted to EU members; which is positive for all members of AEEBC.

As mentioned above, this year we had a record number of seven bids from Regions/Centres to host the events which is excellent. We encourage all Regions/Centres to submit again to host future AGMs as this shows great enthusiasm and a healthy active Institute. The bid for 2019 will be sent out in July (although this seems soon, the 2018 bid was in fact delayed in being sent out and it is essential to plan these events well in advance).
