AT Awards 2026: Celebrating this year’s winners

CIAT is pleased to announce the winners of the AT Awards 2026, recognising outstanding achievements across architectural technology from students, practitioners and organisations.

Presented by CIAT President Usman Yaqub and hosted by Kate Bellingham on 7 October at The Underglobe, the Awards brought together professionals, students and guests from across the built environment to celebrate the breadth and impact of architectural technology.

Among this year’s Talent Award winners, Hazel Bird MCIAT, Architectural Technologist at gcp Chartered Architects, received the Chartered Architectural Technologist of the Year Award. Hazel was recognised for her technical leadership, sustainability expertise and contribution to affordable housing, alongside her commitment to mentoring and advancing the profession.

Thomas Holm-Johansen MCIAT, Senior Chartered Architectural Technologist at Stem Architects Ltd., was named the winner of The Aspiration Award for Emerging Talent in AT 2026, recognising his professionalism, innovation, technical excellence, leadership and commitment to best practice.

Two Gold Awards were also presented to Aled Wyn Rees FCIAT for outstanding services to the Institute and Wales Region, and Gordon James Souter MCIAT for outstanding services to the Institute and Scotland West Region. Both recipients were recognised for their long-standing contribution and commitment to CIAT. 

In the Project Awards, Marshall Walk by ZED PODS Ltd won Small Project of the Year, while Conversion of the Yearwent to Stockroom, Stockport by AEW Architects. Wythenshawe Community Housing Group received Retrofit of the Year for its work delivering the £8.75 million Wythenshawe Mansards project, and The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease by Corstorphine & Wright was named New Build of the Year. The Rob Burrow Centre also received the coveted Project of the Year 2026 Award.

The AT Innovation Award was presented to The Ulster University Virtual Campus, recognising its innovative approach and use of technical and aesthetic expertise to develop a solution with wider relevance.

The Student Awards celebrated the next generation of architectural technologists. Sinéad Duffy of Ulster University won Student Project of the Year for North Ǫuarter Exchange: Designing with Purpose, while Annie Lattimore of Nottingham Trent University won Student Report of the Year for her research into architectural soundscaping in urban public spaces.

The Awards also recognised a number of commended student projects and research, highlighting the breadth of work being undertaken across architectural technology education.

Congratulations to all of this year’s winners, commended entrants and finalists. The AT Awards showcase the knowledge, technical expertise and innovation that architectural technologists bring to projects and the wider built environment.

All 2026 finalists are available on the CIAT website, with the winners arriving shortly. The Awards will reopen for entries on 25 January 2027.
