Building Safety Regulator laying ethical foundations

The new Building Safety Regulator is consulting on two documents laying out professional ethics.

The BSR was set up following the Grenfell tragedy and will be operating as part of the HSE from April.

The first draft document covers mandatory professional conduct rules. This will be applied to building control bodies in the private sector registered to the BSR as a Registered Building Control Approver.

The second draft document covers a mandatory code of conduct. This will be applied to individual building inspectors registered to the BSR, working in both local authority and the private sector.

HSE said these frameworks will sit “at the heart” of the newly regulated building control profession and help ensure those working in the sector “take responsibility and accountability for their decisions, actions and behaviour”.

Both consultations end on 17 February.
