CIAT responds to the Queen's Speech

CIAT reacts to the Queen's Speech 2021.

The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) has responded to the Queen's Speech 2021:

The built environment thrives on a well-managed and resourced planning system that delivers the needs of people whilst meeting the aspirations of policy makers, but not at the expense of the environment.

CIAT and its members promote the technology of architecture for the benefit of society. The planning system in its current form needs to evolve and enable communities to work together to engage with the relevant stakeholders, so that current and future generations reap the benefits of a planning system fit for purpose. We therefore welcome the proposals to reform the planning system and look forward to engaging with Government moving forward.

On the Building Safety Bill:

CIAT has been actively involved in the work surrounding the Building Safety Bill. Working directly with Government, BSI and Health and Safety Executive, CIAT is assisting in driving forward the Building Safety agenda. Chartered Architectural Technologists as a lead profession are a key player to ensure that the new regime, when introduced, is effective and rebuilds confidence in the built environment process which sadly and tragically failed with the Grenfell Tower fire and other fires which have occurred since 2017.
