Survey | Fair public sector procurement opportunities for Chartered Architectural Technologists

Your views invited.

CIAT is advocating for fair public procurement processes in the built environment sector to ensure that all competent professionals, irrespective of professional title, are given the opportunity to tender for works on a level playing field.

CIAT is aware there have been occasions when Chartered Architectural Technologists have not been able to tender for works due to a restriction based on title within tender documents. It is our view that this not only unfairly restricts competition but can also have a detrimental impact on the financial prospects and reputation of those who are restricted from bidding. In addition, it also restricts public sector organisations from securing architectural services that may be better suited to the advertised opportunities.

CIAT would like to gain an understanding of how widespread the issue is amongst both CIAT members and affiliates, and other design disciplines. From December 2024 to 29 January 2025, CIAT is inviting responses to a public procurement survey. Please find a link here.

You are strongly encouraged to complete this survey whether or not you regularly bid for public sector projects, so that we can determine how widespread these issues are.

If you would like to provide additional, detailed feedback and comments, the survey includes an opportunity to provide your contact details for follow-up. Members and affiliates may additionally contact [email protected] directly, but we ask you not to do this in lieu of completing the survey.

We look forward to receiving your responses.
