Phishing emails and online security

A note on a recent phishing email received by members/affiliates.

CIAT has been made aware there is a phishing email that has been sent to members/affiliates, which claims to be related to membership renewal payment. To reassure you, this is not a breach of the data we hold about you on our systems.

As a reminder of our process:

  • We only ever ask you to pay online through our secure online payment portal in the My CIAT area.
  • We will never ask you to pay by replying to an email.

To keep your information safe, we recommend:

  • Checking the email address sender, does it look right?
  • Checking the spelling in the body of the email.
  • Does the email sound like us and the way we talk to you?
  • Does the email contain a veiled threat that asks you to act urgently?
  • Look at the sender's name and email address. Does it sound legitimate or is it trying to mimic someone you know?

If you are in doubt about the validity of a CIAT communication, please contact us on [email protected] or +44(0)20 7278 2206.
