CIAT has been advised of a consultation regarding PAS 8700:2025 Modern methods of construction for new build residential properties - Specification.
This consultation should be of interest to anyone who works within the Modern Methods of Construction sphere and who would like to shape the future of MMC for the industry and particularly Residential projects.
As a member of CIAT this is your chance to get involved and have your say, and we would encourage you to contribute to the response to enable a fair reflection of the membership's views. It is extremely important that the membership gets involved; sending in opinions and comments regarding consultations, so that CIAT can be heard on your behalf.
To create the best response, Sarah May FCIAT, CIAT's Technical Coordinator, is holding an online consultation workshop on Thursday 14 November 2024 between 16:00-18:00 which will be interactive to enable full consultation and gathering of responses with and from members and affiliates in attendance. What does this mean? You only have to review and respond once, in a room with like-minded people who share the same values and professional experience.

Scope of the consultation.
This PAS specifies requirements for DfMA and the use of MMC in new build residential properties. It covers multiple build types and materials used in single use and mixed use residential MMC. This PAS specifies requirements for individual elements and build types covering the entire life cycle from project set up and design through delivery and assembly to maintenance, repair, adaptation, disassembly, end of life and recycling. This PAS also covers risk, safety, skills, information management and systems manuals. This PAS does not cover industrial or commercial buildings, nor the following types of residential buildings:
- hostels;
- care homes and specialized housing;
- hotels;
- prisons; and
- Hospitals.
This PAS is intended for use by designers, manufacturers, installers, developers, logistics providers, specifiers, assurance/warranty providers, valuers, insurers, lenders, housing associations, local authorities, clients, contractors, building owners and principal accountable persons. This PAS is of interest to regulators, building managers and occupiers.
At present we are assuming that this PAS effects the whole of the UK.
