Draft competence framework for sustainability published

The Construction Industry Council has published a draft competence framework for sustainability in the built environment, intended to become a part of the BS 8670 Competence series.

The Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) Climate Change Committee (Workstream 10) has worked with the Edge think tank and has received support from the University College for Estate Management (UCEM) and an industry-wide advisory panel to develop a draft Competence Framework for sustainability in the built environment – Core criteria for sustainability competence - Code of practice.

The standard covers all aspects of sustainability for built environment and infrastructure provision, including associated external and landscape works, for the full breadth of professions and trades in the sector. It is an overarching framework for the development of discipline-specific competency frameworks.

This framework document is anticipated to become an eventual British Standard intended to form part of its BS 8670 Competence series and is open for comment and consultation.

Members and affiliates are invited to submit their comments on this document to [email protected] as this will assist the Institute in putting together its response by Tuesday 5 November.

Alternatively, members and affiliates can make their own comments on the framework directly to the Edge on [email protected] by 16 November 2024.
