CIAT is excited to take part in the 2016 London Festival of Architecture
The future is very much upon us as change increasingly occurs on a daily, hourly and minute by minute basis. In the 21st century, our lives are constantly reinvented by a plethora of social, cultural and economic forces; certain changes occur before our eyes in our local environment and community, whilst others operate in invisible networks beyond control.
'Tomorrow’s Thinking' brings together three talks on research and recent projects which engage with the changing trends and patterns in how we live and work. The event seeks to address how the physical fabric of buildings and spaces can keep up with, and respond to, constant evolutions and the ever-evolving user. Although impossible to determine what change might come next, discussion and thinking about these issues is essential. What is certain is the critical role that Architectural Technology has to play in ensuring the firmness, function and performance of buildings to accommodate our changing circumstances and positively shape the communities we want to live and work in.
Robert Adam, Director of ADAM Architecture will present ‘Tomorrow’s Home’, research on emerging social trends and their impact on the built environment with a focus on the future shape of the home. James Engel, Director of Spaced Out Ltd presents the recently completed Godson Street project in Islington, a mixed-use commercial and residential building which has been realised in collaboration with Edgley Design and others and Jamie Collins, Architectural Technology professional from FaulknerBrowns Architects speaks about recent projects where the firm have responded to the challenge of changes in collaborative working trends.
