Alex Naraian MCIAT previews this important event:

It was exciting to learn that CIAT had been invited to take part in the 2016 London Festival of Architecture. To be able to contribute to the event’s planning has been a privilege and when reviewing what would be appropriate to this year’s theme of ‘Community’ the thought occurred to me that perhaps the research carried out here by ADAM Urbanism of ‘Tomorrow’s Home’ could fit in neatly.

To whet your appetite for the subject and following on from last week’s e-bulletin announcement I thought that it would be of benefit to provide some insight over the ‘Tomorrow’s Home’ research. The research was commissioned by ADAM Urbanism and Grainger plc to look into emerging social trends in the 18 to 34 age group in England and Wales and how these will impact on the built environment. The 80-page report was researched and written by Lily Bernheimer of Space Works Consulting.

Covering topics from employment and tenure to travel and leisure, the report reveals how technology, education, wealth and personal relationships are changing the life-styles of the up-and-coming generation. This age group, the ‘Millennials’, represent 25% of the population and their needs and wants are bound to have a profound impact on the built environment in the near future.

Millennials form an integral part of community and understanding emerging trends can help us understand how this might shape our changing communities now and in the future.

Further information and a summary PDF of the research is available to download here. I have booked my place already. Please book your place early, as I expect this to be a popular event.
