Michael Gove sacked as Levelling Up and Housing Minister

Michael Gove has been fired from his role as the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Secretary.

Gove took over in September at the flagship government department from Robert Jenrick, who himself was sacked in a government reshuffle.

According to media reports, Johnson removed Gove from the post yesterday evening (6 July), after he had urged the prime minister to step down in the wake of the Christopher Pincher scandal.

Yesterday, most of the other ministers in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Secretary (DLUHC), quit their posts in protest against the Prime Minister's leadership.

Stuart Andrew – who was only appointed to his role in February –  resigned as did Kemi Badenoch, Neil O'Brien and Duncan Baker, the MP who introduced the Embodied Carbon bill into Parliament before joining Gove's department as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS), also in February.
