MPs publish new report on delivering 1.5 million quality homes
The All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment (APPGEBE) report, Proud to call home, lays out key actions across three key themes:
- Delivering quality of place, by strengthening design and placemaking guidance, requiring the delivery of community infrastructure, and ensuring that planning expertise within local councils is strengthened
- Delivering quality of building, by improving education and training opportunities, enabling the expansion of Modern Methods of Construction and strengthening inspection requirements
- Delivering quality of experience, by mandating a "soft landings" approach and requiring participation in single consumer code and registration with New Homes Quality (NHQB)/New Homes Ombudsman
CIAT continues to emphasise the importance of maintaining quality, even as government and industry seeks to deliver higher quantities of home. The Institute therefore welcomes this important report, which we hope will keep the government focused on the need to balance these twin priorities of quality and quantity.
The APPGEBE is supported by the cross-sector Construction Industry Council (CIC), of which CIAT is an active member. CIAT was one of six professional institutes which provided information to the APPEBE inquiry, alongside a range of sector bodies, developers and professionals.
