Theresa May pledges to ratify Paris Agreement

Move towards goal of net zero emissions by end of century

Prime Minister Theresa May has pledged to ratify the Paris Agreement on climate change by the end of this year at her recent speech to the United Nations.

According to the UK government, the Agreement 'sets out a clear long-term goal of net zero emissions by the end of the century, showing that the world is committed to decarbonising.' It goes on to add that 'Progress against this goal will be independently assessed in 2018 and every five years thereafter.'
The Agreement is expected to have considerable impact on construction industry legislation in years to come.

Former President Mark Kennett MCIAT, also a Chartered Environmentalist, said 'CIAT looks forward to this commitment from the UK government to work towards the mitigation of the effect of greenhouse gas emissions. It shows that the UK has a strong continued commitment to greenhouse gas mitigation and environmental protection.'
