CIAT looks at tomorrow's world

Institute hosts popular London Festival of Architecture event

This Tuesday CIAT hosted a well-attended seminar, 'Tomorrow's Thinking: robust spaces in a changing community.' The event, held at the University of Westminster as part of the London Festival of Architecture, featured keynote speakers followed by a panel discussion and networking.
Each speaker addressed the question 'how can the physical fabric of buildings and spaces keep up with and respond to constant transformations and the ever-involving user?'

Robert Adam of ADAM Architecture, one of the country's foremost classical architects, revealed research into emerging social trends and their impact on the built environment.

James Engel of Spaced Out Architecture Studio talked about the 'collaborative consumption revolution' which has the potential to transform architecture with innovative ideas on sharing space.

Jamie Collins ACIAT of FaulknerBrowns Architects gave a fascinating insight into lecture theatre design research and how it has produced new ideas of community for Newcastle University.

The panel discussion, led by Virginia Rammou MCIAT, focused on collaborative consumption and new ways of designing to reflect the realities of today's home-life balance.

A full report will follow in the autumn issue of AT magazine.
