London | Ceramics in architecture: Integrating art
Maria Gasparian will discuss her innovative ceramic practice that combines industrial and hand-made processes.
Bricks and architectural ceramics are the world's oldest man-made building materials. Being fireproof, waterproof and virtually maintenance-free, they combine utility with diverse aesthetics. Architectural ceramics have for millenia been integrated within buildings and spaces, bringing vibrancy and expressing cultural identity.
In the presentation, Maria will discuss her innovative ceramic practice that combines industrial and hand-made processes. She will introduce methods of industrial brick manufacturing and discuss the possibilities of creating bespoke clay products that can be integrated into the fabric of the buildings, hard landscaping and street furniture to form site-specific interventions.
Maria will share some of her built projects and will introduce an ongoing public art commission, which will contribute an integrated colourful ceramic artwork to a public space in Battersea, London.
