Calling all AT professionals – the next generation needs you (and you need them)!

Is your practice open to supporting students from Ulster University in the form of a short placement or internship?

The current pandemic has presented many challenges for everyone, not least those in practice, and we recognise that employers across all sectors are adjusting to the unprecedented nature of COVID-19. A knock-on consequence has been that Architectural Technology students are finding it difficult to source and secure placement or internship opportunities. At Ulster University we have developed an alternative placement model, with the minimum period for placement/internship reduced to 15 weeks and supplemented by a new module in Civic and Economic Recovery.

This where we need your help
The coursework task aligned to the new module requires students to research, problem solve and present solutions which contribute to an Architectural Technology related organisational recovery solution. Has your business faced a specific challenge or challenges in relation to recent economic or civic problems created by the COVID-19 pandemic? If so, why not share with our students who will be given 4 weeks to develop solutions. Please see the attached document for more information if you are interested.

Additionally, if you are in a position to support any of our students in the form of a short placement or internship (full or part time) I would be delighted to chat with you in greater detail. This can be quite a flexible arrangement, and as we have all learnt recently, distance is no longer a barrier, so a remote internship throughout Great Britain, Ireland or further afield is also a possibility. I would be very keen to trial this. Remember, our current students are the future of the profession and discipline we all love – the future Committee Members, Regional Councillors, Presidents and AT Awards winners; please help me to help them...YOUR STUDENTS NEED YOU!

Mental Wellbeing
This is also a perfect opportunity to remind you about the recent publication on the mental wellbeing of early career architectural technology professionals. To pledge the support of your practice to this important initiative and have your practice listed in the publication, please click on this link. Doing so will only take seconds, however, never underestimate the difference this can make to the lives of those experiencing mental health issues.

Thank you in advance
