Free national guidance on suicide and the workplace
Every year, thousands of people in the UK die by suicide. Workplaces can play a vital role in recognising risk factors, responding with confidence, and supporting those affected.
BSI, the UK's National Standards Body, has published BS 30480 Suicide and the workplace – Intervention, prevention and support for people affected by suicide. This is the world's first national standard on suicide and the workplace.
Developed with input from more than 70 organisations, including CIAT, and individual experts, BS 30480 provides structured, practical guidance that can be applied across sectors and organisation sizes.
The guidance covers:
- Practical steps for raising awareness and reducing stigma
- How to prepare for and respond to suicide in workplace settings
- Ways to provide support for colleagues and families affected
- Approaches that can be adapted for organisations of all sizes
