LFA 2023 | In Common - The Lived Experience

The London Festival of Architecture (LFA) launched on 1 June and CIAT is hosting an event on 23 June.

June is underway! As is the London Festival of Architecture (LFA) which launched on 1 June.

This year, CIAT is working in collaboration with EH Smith Design Centre; the London home of EH Smith Brick & Ceramic Experts. EH Smith have been advising architectural designers, clients, and contractors for almost a century, and on 23 June at 18:00, they will be opening up their Design Centre to all, to host this year's event In Common | The Lived Experience in celebration of LFA 2023!

This event will explore through presentation and conversation how, no matter what our differences, the buildings we inhabit reflect back to us what we have 'in common'. Be it a home, a place of wellbeing, a place of learning, or a place where we can experience history, join us to discover more and spend the evening in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, where you'll have the opportunity to drink, nibble and network.

President, Kevin Crawford PCIAT, will open the event and Chartered Architectural Technologist Niall Healy FCIAT, will be our MC for the evening, and will ensure the presentations and conversations flow. Refreshments and nibbles will be available throughout the evening, allowing you to enjoy and journey into the work of Chartered Architectural Technologists:

  • Dr Gihan Badi FCIAT and how elements of psychology have informed all work and client relationships. How this then feeds into the design process; the what, and the how technology and space are used. Leaving all clients with a building that not only meets their needs but leaves them all with a sense of belonging to a building and place they can call home.
  • Colin Savage FCIAT and how technical design was used to problem-solve, guide, and assist the DIY SOS team to regenerate an abandoned street in Manchester into a stunning village, and accessible homes for war veterans. Creating a community to all who live in the street, we now know as Canada Street.
  • Paul Travis FCIAT and CIAT-Accredited Conservationist and how his work has enabled us all to continue to to enjoy and meaningfully engage with the buildings we all have 'in common', including those buildings we have inherited from the past. Focusing on the role conservation and Architectural Technology has played in preserving the integrity and function of one of our most-beloved historic buildings, Hampton Court Palace.

There will be time for questions and discussions around the themes.

This is an excellent opportunity for members and affiliates to attend, along with their clients. Also, for anyone who has an interest in Architectural Technology and architecture. For students looking to learn and create industry contacts. Or, for anyone looking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of how the technology of architecture is used.

Beer, wine and light refreshments will be served. To ensure entry to the event please register here.

We look forward to seeing you there!
