Scotland | Changes will be made to published Technical Handbooks from 1 April 2021

Need to avoid use of Category 3 MCM cladding in new building work and to remove reference to BS 8414/BR135 as alternative guidance

The following action has been taken as the Scottish Parliament closes for the legal period prior to the elections in May:

Aas an interim measure, changes will be made to the published Technical Handbooks from 1 April 2021 to identify the need to avoid use of Category 3 MCM cladding in new building work and to remove reference to BS 8414/BR135 as alternative guidance.

This reinforces the direction which is being taken by the Scottish Government where they have already published guidance on the use of MCM panels on existing buildings: “Draft Scottish Advice Note – External Wall Systems (version 3.0)” for existing multi-storey residential buildings which was published in July 2020:
