Chartered Architectural Technologist Dan Rossiter MCIAT joined the BRE after providing architectural, project management and BIM services to the City of Cardiff Council for a number of years working predominantly within the Educational, and Community sectors. Dan’s Architectural work has been consistently completed in an object based authoring tool ‘Revit’ by Autodesk for a number of years allowing him to produce a variety of intelligent 3D models which have been used to produce design deliverables such as detailed 2D drawings, schedules, specifications, room data sheets, walk-through animations and visualisations. Dan also championed BIM by providing staff awareness seminars, presentations and BIM workshops. A key role of Dan’s was also implementation where he worked alongside the City of Cardiff Council’s Quality Assurance staff to aligning the office workflow and documentation to suit a processes outlined within key BIM documentation without negatively impacting on currently quality assurance certification. In addition, Dan produced and maintained agreed standard software templates for colleagues and external partners to use based on the Council’s agreed naming conventions, standards, methods, and procedures.
Impacting across Wales, Dan has been a member of both the Construction Excellence in Wales BIM task group which reported recommendations on BIM compliance to Welsh Government, and the Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales (CLAW) BIM Toolkit steering group which reviewed and formed a BIM toolkit to be used by all twenty two local authorities in Wales to achieve a consistent BIM approach for the public sector in Wales. Dan has also been in communications with Welsh Government regarding the revitalisation of Wales BIM Region community group. For his contributing to Welsh Construction, Dan was awarded Constructing Excellence in Wales’ Young Achiever of the Year award in 2014.
Within the wider UK, Dan been a key member of buildingSMART UK & Ireland contributing to research projects for clients such as Government departments as well as contributing to the development of a buildingSMART UK & Ireland template for Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR). Dan is also a member an the process lead for the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) BIM2050 group, a cross-discipline group of young BIM professional looking at how the industry needs to change though innovative and collaborative means.
Internationally, Dan has co-developed an international BIM foundation course for BRE Academy and is contributing on behalf of the UK to an international BIM competency framework scheme through buildingSMART International. Through Dan’s pursuit of BIM knowledge he has gained recognition by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) as a certified BIM manager.
Dan is currently involved in all of BRE’s BIM services including: Education, where Dan has been developing and delivery training courses, seminars, & webinars; Consultancy, where Dan has been providing support to design and construction firms in the UK regarding their compliance to UK BIM standards; and Certification, where Dan has been auditing design and construction firms assessing their BIM capability.
