This Award is open to individuals and/or groups, but all must be a CIAT member, studying full or part-time on an undergraduate programme in Architectural Technology (or related subject) and not hold any construction related professional qualification.
Criteria for submission
Submissions must be a report or academic paper based upon all, or part, of an assignment or dissertation that is relevant to Architectural Technology and demonstrates research proficiency. The report can include illustrations and images to support its content.
Your submission must demonstrate:
- critical awareness of current technological problems.
- ability to communciate information effectively.
- analysis of different data sources (primary and secondary).
- conclusions and recommendations.
- critiques and rational arguments.
Submission
A completed application form along with your report (as a PDF).
The word count is 3,000 words (+/-10%). Your submission should have a cover page that includes your name, the report title, and the word count (which should cover all sections, including the introduction to the conclusions, and the recommendations).
The report should contain:
- Abstract – a succinct summary of the report, written after the report is completed.
- Introduction.
- Aims and objectives.
- The main body of the report should outline the methodology that was used and should include references to primary and secondary research.
- Relevant headings or sub-headings that divide sections of the main body as appropriate (e.g. results/findings).
- Suitable images/figures/graphs, where appropriate.
- Conclusions and/or recommendations.
- References – all sources should be appropriately referenced.
- Appendices – these should be suitable to, and add to the content of, the report, without being additional sections or amounts of text that would not fit into the word count. The report should reference all appendix material.
N.B. QR codes are not to be included and will not be accessed by the Judging Panel.

There is no application fee – it is free to enter.
Award
The Winner recieves a trophy, a certificate, and an AT Awards logo, an upgrade to Associate membership (until the end of the membership subscription year 2025/26) and £800.
Highly Commended (second) receives a trophy, a certificate, an AT Awards logo, upgrade to Associate membership (until the end of the membership subscription year 2025/26) and £500.
Commended (third) receives a trophy, a certificate, an AT Awards logo, upgrade to Associate membership (until the end of the membership subscription year 2025/26) and £300.
