CIAT Principal Designer Register reopens on 1 May 2025
Applicants can apply to have their competence assessed and verified depending on whether they work on non-higher risk buildings (non-HRB) or higher risk buildings (HRBs).
The cost of assessment is as follows:
- Non-HRB - £200
- HRB - £300
- Non-HRB to HRB - £150
For financial year 2025/26, all PD Registrants will also be required to pay the following PD subscription fees:
- Non-HRB - £50
- HRB - £100

In addition to giving your clients further assurance that you are competent to undertake this role, it may also be looked on favourably by your professional indemnity insurers as this will give them confidence in your abilities and positively affect how they assess your level of risk.
You will also likely have noticed an increase in the amount of information being requested by insurers, especially in relation to the Principal Designer role, which can be time-consuming and laborious to complete. Whilst there will always be a need to provide some information, being on the PD Register will significantly reduce the amount of information needed in respect of this role.
