Open City education partners wanted
CIAT is engaging with Open City because the membership has expressed an interest to work with schools in order to promote architectural technology as an exciting career.
Open City currently has opportunities to support two strands of the programme in both cities:
Young City Makers
Young City Makers is a free, inter-school, design challenge, pairing Key Stage 2 children at local primary schools with professionals from across the built environment sector (architectural technologists, architects, engineers, planners or landscape designers). Working together to reimagine their city, teams explore creativity, design and model-making.
Practices are partnered with a primary school and deliver a three-part workshop series in London and a five-part series in Birmingham, including a site visit where they actively explore a different part of the city, and a shared award ceremony with all partnered schools and practices.
Accelerate
Accelerate is Open City's built environment education programme for underrepresented young people aged 16-18. Through a series of skills development workshops and professional mentoring, the programme supports students to explore careers in architecture, landscape, planning, engineering and related fields, equipping them with skills, portfolios, networks and confidence to make informed progression choices.
Practices support the programme by funding the participation of at least one student through a contribution of £1000 - £3000 a year. They also offer 12 hours of work experience for a small cohort of 3-6 students.

- Offering training in Open City’s inclusive youth-led approach, as well as safeguarding and risk assessment best practice
- Recruiting young people and schools using our widening participation criteria, ensuring opportunities reach the young people who need them most
- Offering opportunities to work with primary schools, special schools, secondary schools or young people–so you can decide to specialise, or we can help you develop your skills to work with other age groups
