Spam/phishing emails

A note on receiving spam/phishing emails claiming to be from the Institute.

We have been made aware of a spam/phishing email received by members and affiliates, claiming to be from members of CIAT's Executive Board and relating to an expenses payment. To reassure you, this is not a breach of the data we hold about you on our systems.

To confirm, any emails from staff and CIAT Honorary Officers will always be sent from an @ciat.global address.

If in doubt, do not divulge any personal information to anyone and mark the email as 'junk'.

As a reminder of our process:

  • We only ever ask you to pay online through our secure online payment portal in the My CIAT area.

  • We will never ask you to pay by replying to an email.

To keep your information safe, we recommend:

  • Checking the email address sender, does it look right?
  • Checking the spelling in the body of the email.
  • Does the email sound like us and the way we talk to you?
  • Does the email contain a veiled threat that asks you to act urgently?
  • Look at the sender's name and email address. Does it sound legitimate or is it trying to mimic someone you know?

If you are in doubt about the validity of a CIAT communication, please contact us on [email protected] or +44(0)20 7278 2206.
