This seminar focuses on the impact of fire safety on the specification of architectural ironmongery.
This CPD presentation looks at fire safety legislation and guidance that impacts the specification of architectural ironmongery. It also covers legislation and guidance that is relevant post-handover, with a focus on risks to consider in respect of fire doors and the correct specification of ironmongery.
By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of:
- The definition of fire safety in addition to some historical context
- Legislation applicable to the ironmongery industry which relates to pre-handover i.e. during planning, construction and sign off
- Legislation applicable to the ironmongery industry which relates to post-handover of a building
- Risks to consider in respect of fire doors and the correct specification of ironmongery as well as potential consequences of ignoring these risks
- Examples of differences to regulatory regimes which were caused by specific occurrences and fires
About
The Guild of Architectural Ironmongers (GAI) aim to promote the highest standards of education, technical excellence and professionalism in our sector, and promote these standards to the wider construction industry and its clients. The Guild's work is built on three pillars:
Education: GAI offer a comprehensive programme of courses and qualifications, leading to diploma qualification and ultimately to RegAI, the benchmark for the demonstration of professional architectural ironmongery competence.
Technical standards: GAI help develop the standards that affect the products its members make, specify and use. They also provide support and advice to the sector on applying these standards.
Community activities: GAI brings people together through its extensive Community Hub network, and its programme of events and awards.
