Building a Safer Future
The Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety was announced by government in July 2017 following the Grenfell Tower tragedy and was led by Dame Judith Hackitt. Its purpose was to make recommendations that will ensure: a sufficiently robust regulatory system for the future; and residents feel that the buildings they live in are safe and remain so. It examined building and fire safety regulations and related compliance and enforcement with the focus on multi-occupancy high-rise residential buildings.
Building Safety Regulator Enforcement Policy Statement
The BSR's Enforcement Policy Statement (applying to England only) sets out their approach to enforcement and action to enforce the law when non-compliance, hazard or serious risk during the building or alteration and management of higher-risk buildings have been identified.
Testing for the Future
This independent review of the construction product testing regime was announced by government in April 2021 and was led by Paul Morrell OBE and Anneliese Day KC. The purpose of the review was to: identify any potential weaknesses in the system; and to make recommendations for improvement. It undertook a critical assessment of the system for testing and certifying construction products and how the system could be strengthened to provide confidence that construction products are safe and perform as labelled and marked.
